As a student, for me the area of Pigneto offers a unique experience. I can go out to eat and drink with my friends, without spending a fortune. The area is in fact full of restaurants and pubs where you can enjoy your night out at affordable prices. You can experience the “real Rome” and enjoy the city’s night life like the locals do.
In the Pigento, you can often find people sitting at the tables of its numerous restaurants and bars. They’re chilling out after a long day of work or study, and enjoying a beautiful night with their friends or partner. There are couples having a meal together with a nice glass of wine in their hands, laughing and enjoying their night out. There are also street vendors, trying to sell roses or jewelry to the people passing by.
The nightlife goes on until late in the night or early in the morning, depending on your point of view! From Monday to Thursday pubs close around midnight, but during the weekends they stay open until 2 am, so that people can enjoy their night out.
According to the locals, Pigneto is an old district that survived the bombings during World War II, between 1943 and 1944. It has beautiful small houses and, for quite some time, has been a gathering place for the students of the Sapienza University of Rome. But this enchanting district attracts not only students, but also all those who want to take their minds off their every day life, either having an aperitif or simply enjoying the charm of the Roman vias.
Getting There
You can easily reach the Pigneto district by taking the C underground line or “little yellow train” from Termini – precisely from via Giolitti – and stop at Alessi. You can also decide to take the bus no. 50 from Piazza dei Cinquecento (from Termini) and stop at Alessi.
The ticket for the public means of transport costs €1.50 and is valid for 100 minutes. Remember that the public transportation service stops working at 11.30 pm from Sunday to Thursday and at 1.00 am on Fridays and Saturdays.
You can also take a taxi from Termini to Pigneto, but it’s a little more expensive at about € 10-15.
