Home » Art Exhibition in Rovigo: Rides! Stories, Images and Games

Completely dedicated to the imaginative iconography of rides, this multifaceted, fun exhibition is also thoughtful. It will take you on a pleasant “ride” as you relive your childhood, contemplate life, the passing of time, a “spinning” world, and destiny.

rovigo-venetoPlaying host will be the beautiful Palazzo Roverella in Rovigo with dates from March 23 through June 30, 2019.

The President of the Foundation, Professor Gilberto Muraro, notes that the area has always been a land of jousting where amusement park rides have been made and shipped all over the world. This exhibition combines the Museo della Giostra e lo Spettacolo Popolare (Museum of Rides and Popular Shows) in Bergantino Rovigo. In a complementary union, the Museum investigates the great traditions of the past. The exhibition ties rides to a social theme by relying on great photographers and great artists.

On display you’ll find images of big and small rides as they have been depicted in photography, but also in paintings, graphics, in numerous toys, in models, and carousels. Also on display are remnants of antique rides such as organs and wooden horses.

The carnival ride has been widely represented in a thousand ways from extraordinary mechanical toys for children and adults, to carousels, clocks and knick-knacks, which over time have become collector items.

The large section of photographs includes works by more than sixty important photographers from the nineteenth century to today.

The exhibition is enriched by a selection of important paintings and by posters of country fairs and popular festivals. The installation of the contemporary artist Stephen Wilks (“Donkey Roundabout”) and the film by Adriano Sforza (“Jodi delle Giostre”), winner of the David di Donatello 2011, is also noteworthy.

Visiting hours are:

Monday to Friday from 9.00 to 19.00
Saturday, Sunday and holidays from 9.00 to 20.00
