One day in August, my dad and I decided to cycle along a stretch of the Valsugana cycle path that connects the Trentino part of Lake Caldonazzo with the city of Bassano (82 km in all).
After loading our bikes into the car (you can also rent them), we decide to take the trip from Tezze to Levico Terme by bike. We park our car in Tezze near a “bicigrill” (the equivalent of the “autogrill” rest areas on the autostrada) and begin our adventure.
The cycle path runs in both directions. During the months of July and August, you can also load your bikes on the train which is equipped with special cars along the Bassano-Pergine Valsugana route. The cycle path is suitable for everyone, from the most athletic to families with children. It’s mainly straight stretches with few climbs and riders will find numerous rest areas (“bicigrill”), lovely flowerbeds and fountains along the way.
Valsugana Village and Telvana Castle
The beauty of the landscape that surrounds it is truly unique! Green meadows, orchards and woods, the gurgling of the Brenta River and chirping birds will be your audio and visual. During our trip, we stopped in Borgo Valsugana, a small but characteristic village completely worth the visit.
From the top of the village, you’ll have views of Telvana Castle which dates back to the 13th century. We stopped for a snack of homemade desserts in one of the small bars in the square near the church. Once refreshed, we continued on our journey towards Levico Terme. In about two and a half hours, we arrived at our destination.
What awaited us is almost indescribable! The lake of Levico Terme, one of the warmest in Southern Europe, is a wonder of nature with its crystal clear waters. We took a short lunch break and then headed back to Tezze. In all, it took us about 8 hours and in the end, although exhausted, we felt very satisfied. This beautiful, well-maintained cycle path with enchanting views is ideal from April to September when the days are still mild and the landscape is painted in a thousand colors.
