This is a guided tour that allows you to experience the beauty of the area and traditions that characterize the capital of Puglia, from food and wine to popular folklore.

You will visit the magnificent Basilica dedicated to St. Nicholas, you’ll walk through the narrow alleysoverlooking the sea, and you’ll witness Barese women making homemade orecchiette and other typical recipes of the area.

The Walking Tour of Bari

On this walking tour of Bari, you will discover the oldest part of the city, or Bari Vecchia, where the Swabian Castle is also located.

With the charm of a port city, Bari overlooks the Adriatic Sea of Puglia, and its promenade is said to be the largest in Italy.

The tour departs from the Castle, an imposing fortress that stands on the edge of the old city and symbolizes the city of Bari. From there, you and your guide will branch off between the various alleys overlooking the sea.

You’ll then reach the Basilica of St. Nicholas, one of the most significant examples of Pugliese Romanesque architecture and a notorious pilgrimage destination. Last, but not least, you’ll see Bari’s Cathedral dedicated to St. Sabina.

During this tour, you’ll surely get a glimpse of the authentic Bari and also have the unique experience of watching local women prepare dough for the classic orecchiette pasta. Finally, you’ll be able to taste the local focaccia bread with fresh tomatoes and Bari’s olives.

Useful info on this walking tour of Bari

The walking tour of Bari Vecchia is available for at least two people every day, except August 15, December 25 and January 1. In July and August the excursion is only available from Monday through Saturday.

The tour departs from the Swabian Castle (Castello Svevo), in the old city centre, at 10:00 am and takes approximately 2 hours. At the Castle you’ll meet with your guide and the other passengers of the tour.

The tour must be booked at least 48 hours before the departure.
