The Casa Provenza B&B in the Heart of Catania

Catania is one of the most fascinating cities on the island of Sicily. A vibrant historic center with Mt. Etna in the background, looming and yet, protecting its people as it has done for thousands of years. So, where to stay for your Sicilian adventure? The Casa Provenza Bed & Breakfast in the heart of the city, of course!

The Casa Provenza Bed & Breakfast

There could not be a better location for your stay in Catania. The Casa Provenza is literally just meters away from all the major attractions in the heart of the historic center. Piazza Duomo with the Church of St. Agatha, the historic Bellini Theater, the famous fish market- and the list goes on! This city is known for its movida at all hours of the day and night and you’ll have unlimited choices of cafes, restaurants, street food, pubs, and piano bars where you can enjoy the best of Sicilian culture, food, and music.

You’ll also be just steps away from Via Etnea where you can catch a bus to just about anywhere including the beach or a tour to major destinations outside the city.

This newly-renovated B&B is located on the fourth floor (with elevator) and boasts a terrace with a view for guests to enjoy an aperitif or a delicious breakfast included with every stay. Don’t worry about traffic noise because it is in a limited traffic zone with mostly pedestrian traffic.

Public parking is available in the immediate vicinity (200 m. away) or can be arranged in nearby private garages for a small daily fee.

The Casa Provenza staff is extremely welcoming and accommodating and will be happy to help guests in any way possible including transport services (upon request and with a supplemental fee).

The historic center is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and an eclectic mix of Baroque architecture and the influences of the many “guests” that have left their mark over the centuries.

Some of the highlights that everyone must see are the Church of St. Agatha in Piazza Duomo, the Greek amphitheater, Palazzo dei Chierici and Palazzo degli Elefanti, and the historic markets Piscarìa and la Féra o Luni.

In the Immediate Area

Catania’s beaches are both rocky and sandy and the most well-known is by far, the famous Playa di Catania. Kilometers of golden sand and innumerable choices of bathing establishments, bars, restaurants, and cafes all within easy reach of the historic center.

Other destinations include the “Land of Aci“, a total of 9 towns beginning with the word Aci. The most famous of these is probably Aci Trezza with its prized turquoise waters and strange rock formations known as faraglioni.

Probably the most obvious is a tour of one of the most active volcanoes on earth, Mt. Etna, which can be experienced in a number of ways depending on you. The hotel can help you arrange a tour with an expert guide in a 4-wheel drive vehicle or perhaps, you prefer trekking up the mountain, or even a combination of both. There are lots of possibilities and they are all available just meters away from the B&B.

Less than 2 Hours Away

If you are still searching for more and have the time, then there is plenty more to do within a 2-hour drive from the B&B.

The Sicilia Outlet Village is located in Agira about 45 minutes west of Catania and offers every major brand in a beautiful outdoor mall setting.

If nature is your thing then you won’t want to miss the Alcantara Gorges which are just an hour north of the B&B. Mother Nature truly outdid herself when the river carved out these stunning gorges and cliffs.

Continue on from Alcantara to Taormina, one of the most sought-after destinations in all of Italy. It boasts the second-largest Greek amphitheater in all of Sicily!

If you choose to head south, in just 70 km you’ll be in Siracusa visiting Ortigia Island and the Maniace Castle.

On the opposite side of the island, to the extreme west of Catania, in just 2 hours you can be in Agrigento visiting the Valley of the Temples! You’ll be walking among the gods as you explore the largest contribution of Greek architecture still existing today outside of Greece itself.

As you can see, Catania is a city that offers a bit of everything and Casa Provenza is the perfect place in which to enjoy it!
