September and October 2019 Destinations

Treno Natura’s autumn / winter 2019 season has begun with its first destination scheduled for September 29th. For the occasion of the Chiusi Grape and Wine Festival, Treno Natura offers you a unique and memorable journey departing at 9am from Siena. You will arrive in Chiusi around 11 am for the town festival or even add a guided tour package of Chiusi “Underground” which includes the Cathedral Museum, Porsenna Labyrinth and Civic Museum. For the return, there are various options from which to choose.

On October 12th, all aboard for Abbadia San Salvatore and its autumn festival. The journey alone would be worth it as it will meander across the most renowned areas of Tuscany and Italy: the Val d’Orcia Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the Brunello di Montalcino and Crete Senesi areas.

The next day, October 13th, it will leave for Vivo d’Orcia and the porcini mushroom festival. Vivo d’Orcia is located on the slopes of Mount Amiata at about 930 meters above sea level. Once there, you’ll also have the chance to visit the outside of the castle and take a guided tour in the woods.

Autumn in Italy also means the olive harvest and it’s when the olio nuovo, or freshly harvested olive oil, is celebrated. The village of Trequanda and its olive oil festival will be Treno Natura’s stop on October 20th. You’ll enjoy olive oil tastings with experts to the sound of traditional folklore music and dance in this wonderful village festival.

October 27th will be the final destination for the month of October with Treno Natura heading to Montalcino for its famous festival. The four districts of Montalcino will compete in an archery competition for this ancient festival which celebrates local hunting traditions. Treat your palate to an authentic lunch hosted by one of the four districts accompanied by Montalcino’s famous wines. (by reservation)

Ideal for the Entire Family

The train itself is ideal for the entire family and offers very affordable ticket prices. Children 10 and under can ride for only 3.50 euro (on your lap) if accompanied by a paying adult. Otherwise, at the reduced rate of 21.50 euro. The train also makes a stop along the way for photo opps and to see the workings of the steam engine. Just remember, reservations are a must!

Railroad trains are such magnificent objects we commonly mistake them for Destiny.

E.B. White

Perhaps E.B. White never had the fortune of riding through Tuscany’s Val d’Orcia, because those who have, could argue that it feels as though you are, in fact, riding to your destiny.
