The Perugia Christmas Market in the Heart of Umbria

Home » The Perugia Christmas Market in the Heart of Umbria

The time has come for the already magical city of Perugia to celebrate the magnificent Christmas Season. The Umbrian capital offers a unique Christmas atmosphere with its holiday lights, markets and ice rink. What’s different about the Perugia Christmas market compared to all the other markets in Italy? Simple: it’s an underground market! For more than twenty years, the market has been held in a 15th-century fortress called Rocca Paolina.

The Christmas market at the Rocca hosts selected exhibitors from all over Italy with their quality craft products and ingenious creations. The labyrinth of the ancient medieval streets leads visitors on a journey of aromas, flavors, colors and traditional, local foods that make this event unique in its kind.

In addition, the Rocca also hosts numerous workshops for children in the Cannoniera Hall. The little ones can try their hand at making nativity scenes, Christmas decorations, toys and much more and decide whether to take their work home or donate it.

Children will also have the opportunity to meet Santa Claus and take a souvenir photo with him.

Christmas in Perugia isn’t just at the Rocca but everywhere! You’ll feel the spirit of this magical season everywhere you turn!

The Rocca Christmas Market Dates and Hours

December 7, 2019 through January 6, 2020, every day from 10 am to 8 pm

  • By car: paid parking with hourly and daily rates. Located in the historic center, the covered market parking is the most convenient, but also the most expensive. The alternatives are the Piazza Partigiani parking lot or the one in Viale Pellini, just outside the city walls and with more affordable rates.
  • By Minimetrò: certainly the cheapest way. Leave your car in the free parking area of the minimetrò of the Pian di Massiano station. With € 1.50 ticket, the minimetrò will take you directly into the historic center, and during the trip, you can enjoy a wonderful view.

Where to Eat

The historic center is full of restaurants, bars, pizzerias and places to stop for meals. For something extra special, we suggest you stop at Locanda della Rocca, in the Sala del Caminetto of Rocca Paolina. An exceptional location that serves a delicious breakfast, brunch, tea, hot chocolate, lunch and aperitifs.
